Dan Carreras

A developer with more than ten years of experience across DevOps engineering, QA leadership, full-stack development and games. I've migrated production platforms to the cloud, cut infrastructure costs by over £50k a year, and shipped my own products to the web, App Store, Google Play and Steam.

Independent Developer & Contractor

Caesoose Studios · Remote

I design, build and operate my own products and take on client work, owning each one end to end: product, code, infrastructure and store release.

  • Tickbase (flagship): a full-featured to-do and productivity app (tasks, habits, focus timer, calendar, shared lists, reviews) on one TypeScript codebase across web, Mac, Windows, Linux, iOS and Android. Encrypted, offline-first sync runs on a serverless Cloudflare Workers and D1 backend.
  • Noteshire: live multilingual meeting transcription with mixed-language support and Claude-generated summaries. Railway backend.
  • Voreum and Forever Letter: a media tracker on Supabase/Postgres, and a time-capsule letters service on Workers, D1 and R2.
  • Speech recognition API (contract): sign-up and usage API for deferred and real-time Vietnamese/English speech recognition, built with JavaScript and FastAPI on PostgreSQL.
  • Games: released Fenced In on Steam. The Lonely Meadow launches on Steam on 18 Nov 2026.

Software & Security Consultant

Client: national distribution company · 200+ staff, 250+ machines

Two engagements for the same client. I built a mobile inventory system they now rely on daily, and I led their response to a ransomware attack.

  • Inventory scanner app: a cross-platform scanning app with a self-hosted server and licensing service. It has helped the company scan 2M products per month on 50+ ordinary phones, saving thousands of dollars in dedicated hardware.
  • Incident response (Feb – Mar 2026): after a breach and ransomware attack, I led the response from first investigation through to a hardened, automated estate.
  • Investigated the breach and supported staff through the incident, then cleaned up affected systems.
  • Rolled out current security best practice across all 250+ machines.
  • Built fleet-wide automation with Action1 and PowerShell: Microsoft Defender audits, forced scans and Kaspersky KVRT sweeps, with results reported to a central collector service.
  • Designed and introduced new backup policies so the business can recover quickly from any future attack.

Senior DevOps Engineer & QA Lead

Lexacom · Remote

I joined Lexacom in customer support and worked my way up to running its build, release and quality processes. Along the way I learned the product from the customer's side first: the support calls, the edge cases, and the documentation people actually need.

  1. Customer SupportFront-line support; wrote much of the product and support documentation
  2. SpecialistPromoted within two years
  3. QATesting, test automation and release sign-off
  4. DevOps EngineerCI/CD, infrastructure and cloud migration
  5. Senior DevOps Engineer & QA LeadLed dev and ops processes for the development team
  • Wrote a large body of customer-facing and internal documentation, which became the knowledge base support and new staff relied on.
  • Played a central role in the infrastructure for Lexacom's migration to the cloud, balancing what colleagues and customers expected along the way.
  • Built the CI/CD pipeline in Jenkins and Groovy, later moving continuous delivery to Azure DevOps Pipelines.
  • Auto-scaled Azure customer databases based on usage, saving over £50,000 a year in platform costs.
  • Led development and operations processes within the development team.
  • Dockerised internal tools to make onboarding new staff fast and consistent.
  • Improved the automated test and simulation frameworks.
